Marfa and Ċirkewwa to the lagoon
The Comino Blue Lagoon ferry is a 20 to 25-minute crossing from Marfa or Ċirkewwa, with boats every 30 minutes and a ticket valid all day, at $17 per person return. Here is how the timetable works, the shore pass you now book separately, the Gozo option, and when a boat tour is the better buy.

Quick answer
The short answer. Take the Comino Blue Lagoon ferry at $17 per person if you want a long day on the island at your own pace: board in Marfa or Ċirkewwa, come back on any return boat. Book the shore pass on blcomino.com first. Want the Crystal Lagoon and the sea caves too? The 3-hour boat from Ċirkewwa costs $32 per person.
Four ways across, side by side
All four prices are per person on the listings; the one-hour private boat adds skipper and fuel.
| Option | Price | What the price covers | From | Length |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Return ferry | $17 per person | The crossing both ways and time on your own at the lagoon | Marfa or Ċirkewwa | 20–25 min each way |
| Shared boat, up to 24 | $32 per person | Crystal Lagoon 45 min, Blue Lagoon 1 h, Santa Maria Bay 45 min, sea caves | Ċirkewwa | 3–4 hours |
| Private boat, one hour | $16 per person + skipper and fuel | Your own boat, both lagoons, the caves; skipper and fuel are a 64-euro charge per group | Ċirkewwa or Mġarr, Gozo | 1 hour |
| Private boat, 1–2 hours | $21 per person | Your own boat, the caves, both lagoons, a cool box and Bluetooth speakers | Ċirkewwa or Gozo ferry terminals | 1–2 hours |
How it works
Two harbours, one ticket for the whole day.
The Comino Blue Lagoon ferry runs from two harbours in the north of Malta. From Marfa the first boat leaves at 8:30 AM and the last at 4:00 PM; from Ċirkewwa the first is at 8:40 AM and the last at 5:00 PM. From November to March the day is shorter: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Marfa, 9:10 AM to 4:10 PM from Ċirkewwa.
You do not book a time. The ticket works at any hour on your date, and boarding is first come, first served: miss a full boat and the next one is 30 minutes away.
The route passes the Comino Sea Caves only until mid-afternoon: the last such trip leaves Marfa at 3:00 PM and Ċirkewwa at 3:10 PM. Return boats leave the island of Comino Blue Lagoon landing from 9:30 AM, about once an hour; check the last one for your date.
The shore pass
Since May 2025 you need a pass to step onto the beach. Sort it before you take the Comino Blue Lagoon ferry.
Anyone who goes ashore at the lagoon, as ferry passengers do.
Make your Blue Lagoon Comino booking on blcomino.com, in advance, before the day you travel.
Choose the time slot that matches the hours you will spend at the lagoon.
There is a daily cap, so book the pass as soon as your ferry date is fixed.
If you only swim from the deck of a boat tour, you do not need the pass.
The return Comino Blue Lagoon ferry costs $17 per person, with the Gozo option at the same price.
Check ferry times→The Gozo option
One ticket, two islands, no return from Gozo included.
For the same $17 per person, you can book the one-way route Malta—Comino Blue Lagoon—Gozo. The first boat takes you to the lagoon; after your time on Comino, a second one carries you on to Mġarr Harbour on Gozo.
The return to Malta is not part of this ticket: you take one of the regular ferries from Mġarr yourself. Want the whole loop arranged? Our top pick below sails from Sliema to Gozo and Comino and back.
At the lagoon
The water at the beach, and a cave the earlier boats pass.
The shallows by the jetty, with the kiosks on the rocks above.
Light through a cave opening. Only the earlier crossings pass the caves.
Ferry or boat tour
Same island, two different days.
The Comino Blue Lagoon ferry wins on time: nobody calls you back to a boat, so you swim, walk the island and leave when you like. It does not take you to the Crystal Lagoon, Santa Maria Bay or inside the caves.
The shared boat from Ċirkewwa covers all three in 3 to 4 hours, at $32 per person, with up to 24 people on board: 45 minutes at the Crystal Lagoon, an hour at the Blue Lagoon and 45 minutes in Santa Maria Bay, then into the caves when the sea allows. Graham from the United Kingdom praised the «great boatman know exactly how to navigate into some of the caves for a better look». Drinks and snorkel hire on board are paid extra.
Boat tours on our list start at $32 per person.
Before you go
A few minutes now saves a queue at the harbour.
Reserve a slot on blcomino.com that matches your hours at the lagoon.
Going from Valletta to Comino Blue Lagoon? Boats leave from Marfa or Ċirkewwa, in the north, not from the capital.
To pass the sea caves on the way out, board by 3:00 PM at Marfa or 3:10 PM at Ċirkewwa.
Your own boat
Two short private boats start at Ċirkewwa and also on Gozo, which makes them the simplest Comino tour from Gozo on our list. Both listings show the price per person, yet the boat is yours.
The one-hour boat costs $16 per person, plus a 64-euro skipper and fuel charge per group, rated 4.8 from 490 reviews. It takes in the Blue and Crystal Lagoons and the caves.
The 1–2 hour boat costs $21 per person, rated 4.8 from 444 reviews, with a cool box and Bluetooth speakers. Kiera from the United Kingdom: «so nice having a private boat and the speakers are great too.» Andrew from Canada notes his trip was «closer to 45mins as opposed to an hour», so ask about timing at the pier.
Our verdict
Book the Comino Blue Lagoon ferry at $17 per person if you want a long beach day on your own clock, and book the shore pass with it. Want the Crystal Lagoon and the caves? The 3-hour shared boat at $32 per person covers them. Staying on Gozo or travelling as a small group? A short private boat starts at Mġarr.

Our top pick across the site is the boat from Sliema with a bus tour of Gozo, $50 per person for 7.5 hours: Victoria on Gozo, then 90 minutes at the Blue Lagoon. All eleven trips, from shared boats to private speedboats, are side by side in our full list of boats.
Common questions
About 20 to 25 minutes each way, from Marfa or Ċirkewwa. Boats leave every 30 minutes and your ticket is valid all day on the date you booked.
Yes, if you step onto the beach. Since May 2025 a pass is needed to go ashore at the lagoon. Book it in advance on blcomino.com and pick a time slot that covers your hours there. The ferry listing does not mention the pass.
$17 per person for the return trip, rated 4.6 from 858 reviews. The Gozo option costs the same, but the crossing from Gozo back to Malta is not included.
Yes. Book the Malta—Comino Blue Lagoon—Gozo option at the same price. After your time at the lagoon, a second boat takes you to Mġarr Harbour on Gozo. Getting back to Malta is up to you: take one of the regular ferries from Mġarr.
The ferry gives you the most hours on the island for the least money, but no stops at the Crystal Lagoon or inside the caves. A 3-hour boat tour from Ċirkewwa at $32 per person adds both, with an hour at the Blue Lagoon.
